Benguela Cove Lagoon Wine Estate is a boutique wine farm and exclusive residential estate located on the beautiful lagoon at Walker Bay, Hermanus, South Africa - just 60 minutes by road from Cape Town International Airport. Benguela Cove - The Farm / Estate

The 220 hectares of farmland on the estate include 70 hectares planted to vines. Residents receive an annual allocation of wine and extra virgin olive oil - and there are tastings and related social activities on site from which to choose.

Sharing the estate with the residents is the 80 hectare private wildlife reserve - Grey Rhebok, Duiker, Grysbok and other indigenous game roam freely through the protected Renosterveld Nature Reserve. The idyllic lifestyle of the wine farm and lagoon, and excellent security protection, attracts new residents from South Africa, Europe and beyond who want to restore balance to their working lives.

The quality of the wines from Benguela Cove’s vineyards benefits from the unique conditions of the estate’s location at the ocean’s edge, on the southern coast of South Africa. The south-easterly sea breeze is chilled by the Benguela Current flowing up from Antarctica, to cool the grapes at night after the warm summer days, irrigated by above-average rainfall, for perfect viniculture.

The vineyards planted across the estate are young and have already asserted the supreme quality of the terroir with a series of awards. These exceptional conditions and the skills of the winemaker create our superb Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and other cultivars. The estate benefits from major investment by the new owners in winemaking and cultivation. This is a family with a new vision for Benguela Cove: to establish the estate’s red and white cultivars over the coming years as South Africa’ premier quality wine.

Dining @ Benguela Cove

The Hermanus restaurant, Moody Lagoon is set in the heart of the Benguela Cove winery complex. The Walker Bay wine farm won the Cellar Door Experience of the Year award in the Tim Atkin, MW, 2022 South Africa Wine Special Report.

The restaurant is in an elevated setting with expansive views of the lagoon and the Atlantic ocean. The kitchen is the domain of Annie Badenhorst. A talented young Namibian chef with a passion for finding only the best fresh produce and creatively turning dishes into simple but creative menu items.

You can expect outstanding views, a casual and relaxed daytime eatery in the harmonious Hermanus. We offer our guests a choice of delicious dishes, paired with sensational wine from Benguela Cove’s Winery. In the evening, Chef Badenhorst likes to cook to create a memorable occasion. This delightful Hermanus restaurant is the perfect place for a date night or a night out with friends.
