Established in 1995, Whalehaven Winery is the third-oldest wine producer in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Situated just outside Hermanus, this boutique winery takes its name from the protective bay that provides a safe haven for breeding Southern Right whales during the Cape winter months. Crafting a delightful range of wines that captivate and excite the taste buds, Whalehaven specializes in handcrafted wines, including exceptional site-specific Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.

The Wine Purist experience allows guests to taste signature Whalehaven Wines. Be welcomed with two locally renowned wines; the Abalone White & Sauvignon Blanc, then choose two of the classic cultivars. R60.00 PER PERSON

Reserve Tasting

This Reserve Series of cool-climate, terroir-specific wines highlights the site-specific nature of wines from the Hemel-en-Aarde valley that are a triumph of nature. R200.00 PER PERSON.

Wine & Floral Chocolate

Discover the characteristics of wine in this signature chocolate and wine-paired tasting. Locally handmade chocolates are paired with three Classic Cultivar wines. R180.00 PER PERSON.

Private Wine Tastings

Whalehaven Winery can be used as a venue for private tastings for groups of up to 16 people. Tailor-made wine tasting packages are available for groups or special occasions. Bookings are essential.

HEMEL-EN-AARDE REGION

In 2004, Walker Bay Wine Ward was reclassified as a Wine District, one of 21 in South Africa's winelands. Due to its size and diverse wine styles, Walker Bay couldn't justify its ward status. With the help of a committee of soil specialists and viticulturists, producers could create their own wine wards. Within the Hemel-en-Aarde region, three wards were created: Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, and Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, each with its own unique character.
