Located in the stunning Hemel-en-Aarde valley, our wine estate, La Vierge, is a hidden gem nestled among majestic mountains. With utmost humility, we take pride in being the esteemed purveyor of the valley's most captivating wines, a distinction we strive to maintain.

Meaning ‘The Virgin’ in French, La Vierge takes its bright and unique inspiration from the surrounding Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in the Overberg region, which is also home to the famous whale-watching town of Hermanus.

La Vierge Wine Cellar

La Vierge, a winery originally designed by the Johnson family in 1997, has undergone extensive renovations since its purchase by the La Vierge family. The building now houses a tasting room and restaurant on the upper level, a double-volume winery on the north side, and a sunken maturation room on the south side. The winery is well-designed and compact, with stainless steel tanks designed for easy movement during harvest. The variation in tank sizes allows for flexibility in handling varied batches from three vineyard sites.

La Vierge Restaurant - B’s Stro

The renowned steak expert Bruce, who runs B's Stro, offers a tempting selection of dishes to suit every palate. Drawing inspiration from our surroundings, Bruce has crafted a distinctive menu that perfectly complements the La Vierge wine collection. The breathtaking scenery further enhances our little slice of paradise, making for an unforgettable dining experience. Whether you prefer indulging in canapés on our sun-drenched open-air deck or immersing yourself in the valley's beauty while dining amidst captivating artworks and expansive floor-to-ceiling windows, we guarantee a remarkable meal. La Vierge Tasting Room

Tasting Room Closed: 15th, 22nd, 29th May, and 5th, 12th June

The tasting room at La Vierge offers a unique experience in the heart of the Valley, showcasing all the wines offered by the winery. Located in the bright entrance, visitors can taste everything from the saucy Jezebelle to the refined Noir. The tasting room also offers cellar door prices for all wines, or customers can order them from the online shop.

La Vierge Vineyards

Babylon Farm, located on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, is responsible for growing award-winning wines. The farm has almost 44 hectares of vineyards, utilizing dryland farming without irrigation. This results in better-quality grapes with less fruit per hectare. The use of a tramline system to trellis the vines ensures high-density plantings. The farm also grows 10 different cultivars, including Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Semillon, and Riesling. The team at Babylon Farm works hard to treat each grape with the individual love and care it deserves during harvest season. The region is famous for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but they also grow other varieties like Sauvignon Blanc, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Semillon, and Riesling.

Oak Cottage Accommodation at Babylon Farm

The self-serviced Oak Cottage provides room for up to 7 guests within its three elegantly appointed bedrooms, each boasting their own private bathroom.

La Vierge functions & Events Venue

La Vierge, a venue perfect for functions and events, was completed in 2007 with a final build that included a bowls play area. The venue can seat 100 people and cater to various groups, including brides-to-be, corporate groups, tour groups, and those wanting to experience the valley. The staff is well-trained, friendly, and knowledgeable, and the kitchen features a dedicated chef and team.
